The principal of the Fulmer Rise Stud Georgina Beard, qualified as a British Horse Society Assistant Instructor at the Fulmer School of Equitation, where there were Lipizzaners. The principal there was Robert Hall, who had been a pupil at the Spanish Riding School of Vienna just after the War – he had brought a number of Lipizzaners back to the UK, not the least of which was Conversano Caprice, that won a Bronze medal at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics ridden by Mrs Hall, coached by Robert Hall.
Georgina had, however, had a childhood dream of owning a Lipizzaner since being taken to Vienna and the Spanish Riding School in 1961, but it took until 1977 to obtain her first Lipizzaner from there.
In March 1977, she was offered a choice of young stallions in Vienna; she chose Pluto Nima XII for his beautiful ‘schwung', lift and cadence.

The heavens smiled on us as one of Australia's leading riders Nadine Merewether, fell in love with Pluto Nima, took him on on generous terms and progressed through the ranks of open dressage to become champions at Australian National Dressage Championships at all levels of dressage including Prix St Georges as they competed in four States. Unfortunately after this level Pluto was not able to compete, but continued to thrill audiences in Western Australia with exhibitions of higher school movements in long reins. |
Sadly, Pluto Nima left only one purebred offspring (79 Saturn), as we did not own any purebred mares and regularly crossbred only. In retrospect, what a terrible shame! He died in 1996.
We began with pure bred mares, with the use of 78 Neapolitana and purchase of 171 Leipzig, that was given second top marks in Australia at Accreditation by Dr Oulehla in 1999.
We were fortunate enough to be able to utilise Gail Hamilton's American bred stallion, 3818 Conversano Juliana III as he passed through Australia after quarantine on his way to live in New Zealand. We achieved one only live foal, a filly 220 Intaglia from 171 Leipzig.
We started searching the world for a new stallion in 1999. It seemed a fruitless task, so we snapped up a mare, Pluto XXIX-23 in Belgium that we considered outstanding, and finally got her in foal to a Hungarian European champion stallion, that was on lease to Les Haras Nationaux at the time. (The offspring is a sweet mare, 234 Pomona.)
The mare Pluto XXIX-23 is by the Piber bred stallion, Pluto Roviga that stood at Piber, Szilvásvárad and Topol'cianky, out of a Pallavicini mare (sought after for their quality). The mare had been exported to Belgium in a team of four harness horses from Szilvásvárad for international competition. Later the team was dissolved and the mare sold into a dressage home. She has proved to be superb. |
We kept looking for a stallion. We found 226 Favory Naussica (‘Maestro”) in May 2002.
In 2006 we purchased a new farm near the horse capital of Australia, Scone. There we have 267.5 hectares, (652 acres) which we intend to develop as a larger horse stud, running beef cattle as well. We are looking forward to expand our business to Hunter Valley in the future. |
